Transfer Credits
Transfer credits recognize post-secondary level academic work successfully completed at an accredited college or university.
There are three types of transfer credits:
Assigned Credits
Exact equivalents, also referred to as assigned credits.
An assigned credit is granted when Trent University recognizes that
the curriculum in a course at another university or college is very
similar to a course at Trent University. For example, PSYC 101, a
full year course at the University of Ottawa is equivalent to PSYC 1020H
and PSYC1030H, two half courses at Trent University. Therefore, PSYC
1020H and PSYC 1030H will appear on your academic record.
Unassigned Departmental Credits
A discipline equivalent, or unassigned departmental credit,
is granted when Trent University recognizes that the course material is comparable with the subject material in a discipline at Trent, but for which there is not an equivalent course. For example, a History
course taught at another university that is not taught at Trent might be granted a 1000-level (Year 1) unassigned History credit.
Unassigned General Credits
An unassigned general credit would be granted whenthe subject of the course is not taught at Trent University, but the
material is deemed to be at the university level. For example a course
in Kinesiology at another university could be granted an unassigned
science credit at Trent University.
Note: All transfer credits are recorded as a "pass" grade. Numerical grades are not entered on the student record.
