Indigenous Student Admission Information
Greetings from Trent University!
Trent values Indigineity and the knowledge, perspective and voice you bring to the Trent community as a person of Indigenous heritage.
As a student who self-identifies as being of Indigenous ancestry, there are two options when applying to Trent University:
Trent's Degree Program or the Indigenous Diploma Program.
Degree Program
Indigenous students who have followed a traditional academic path are eligible to apply to Trent directly through the Degree Program application process.
Who Am I?
Ontario Secondary Students
As a current Ontario secondary student (or have graduated within seven months), you are working towards your OSSD (Ontario Secondary Student Diploma). Your application to Trent is based upon the successful completion of your diploma, including your overall average and six 4U/M grades

Ontario Secondary School Graduates
You graduated from an Ontario secondary school graduate over seven months ago. Your application will also be based on your OSSD; however, you will be required to fill out an additional application form (105-D) from current high school students through OUAC .
Non-Ontario Current Secondary Students
Admission requirements may vary across provinces and territories.
Other Groups of Secondary Students
Admission requirements vary for students coming from outside Ontario or Canada.
Mature Students
You are a student who self-identifies as being of Aboriginal ancestry but also qualifies as a mature student under the characteristics listed here. The combination of your education and experience qualifies you for consideration for the standard Trent degree program.

Full-Time or Part-Time
Full-time and part-time degree options are available to students at either the Peterborough or Oshawa campus and your choice can be selected through OUAC.

Residence
First year applicants are guaranteed residence after applying through OUAC, but you must apply for residence by June 1, 2012 in order to reserve your spot.

How Do I Apply?
Apply On-Line
All applications for undergraduate studies at Trent University must go through OUAC (www.ouac.on.ca). OUAC charges a non-refundable application fee, to be paid in full at the time of application. Please refer to the OUAC website for full application fee information.
If you are currently enrolled in high school, guidance counsellors will provide you with a P.I.N. (personal identification number) to access the OUAC site and application process.
All other applicants will create user profiles on the OUAC site, which will then automatically assign a P.I.N.
If you are not currently registered as a secondary student, please apply using the OUAC 105-d application at www.ouac.on.ca/105.
What Happens Now?
Application Received
Once your completed application has reached Trent through OUAC, Trent will mail you a small package as well as send you an email (to the email address listed in your OUAC application) as an official acknowledgement of your application.
The package and email will list important next steps for you to take regarding the application and admissions process. Some important steps to think about include: reviewing your program requirements and the accuracy of your OUAC application, setting up your MyTrent account, tracking your application, researching funding opportunities at Trent, among other great information.

Coming to see Trent is the best way to make sure it is the right place for you. Trent hosts Open House events several times a year, which includes a tour of the campus, the opportunity to meet professors, sample a few classes and get a feel for student life. Trent also offers individual (or small group) tours daily. Check out www.trentu.ca/openhouse or www.trentu.ca/tours for dates and times of Open House sessions and how to book a tour.
Diploma Program
The Indigenous Diploma Program at Trent University is a program for applicants of Indigenous ancestry who may not have taken a traditional academic path towards post-secondary education. The Diploma program provides an opportunity for students of Indigenous heritage who wish to pursue university level studies and who believe they may benefit from studying in a supportive academic atmosphere for Indigenous students.
Diploma Program Structure
There are two program options in the Diploma Program: Foundations of Indigenous Learning or Indigenous Management and Economic Development.
Students admitted to the program will take at least eight university credits over two years.
After successfully completion of these credits, students will receive a diploma in either the Foundations of Indigenours learning Diploma or Indigenouns Management and Economic Development Diploma
Upon successful completion of the Indigenous Diploma Program, credits earned can be applied directly to a university degree at Trent. Most students can complete the balance of a 3 year B.A. or a 4 year Honours degree in one or
two more years of study.
All Indigenous Diploma Program students must take full-time studies over the course of the program.
Who Am I?
Current Secondary Students
You are a current secondary student self-indentifying as being of Aboriginal ancestry that has followed a non-traditional academic path.
You will fill out a “101” form on the OUAC website (OUAC), identifying the Indigenous Diploma Program from the drop down menu as your program choice. You will also be required to fill out an Indigenous Diploma Program Supplementary Application.
Non-Current Secondary Students
You are not currently enrolled in secondary school. You self-identify as of Aboriginal ancestry and have not followed a traditional academic path towards post-secondary education. You may be a mature student, or a student who has experienced extenuating
circumstances, that you feel impacted your academic success, over the course of your academic history.
Students who identify as non-current secondary students of Aboriginal ancestry will fill out the 105-D form on the OUAC site, identifying the Indigenous Diploma Program from the drop down menu when asked to fill in your program choice. You will also be required to fill out an Indigenous Diploma Program Supplementary Application.
